Rorschach method
Theoretical ModelSynthesis of Psychometry and Symbolism in Self Analysis
The Roman Rorschach School, like the majority of scholars, integrates the psychometric aspect with the symbolic content aspect, letting one coexist to confirm and support the other. In particular, the Roman Rorschach School Method is among those that are particularly structured and complex; it has behind it a body of theory now established by more than sixty years of application and research.
The School was founded in Rome by Prof. Carlo Rizzo (1895-1983) in 1938 and is still active today as the “Italian Institute for Psychodiagnostic Study and Research, Roman Rorschach School.” Carlo Rizzo systematized the initials into a precise and homogeneous whole, through research carried out over the years and supplemented by continuous comparison with the works of the most significant scholars.
The method stands as an ideal continuation of Hermann Rorschach’s original approach. Rizzo, with his first contributions in the 1930s, began a course of study consistent with what Rorschach himself indicated in Psychodiagnostik. He remained faithful to the original interpretive lines throughout his scholarly career, making additions only in areas developed unfinished due to the author’s untimely death. They continue, after Rizzo, the work of study, research and training Patrizia Pes and Salvatore Parisi.

Multiple elements are provided in the acronym that translate what the subject observed in the spots; the words correspond to tractable and quantifiable aspects of the personality, and the complexity of the individual can only further the complexity and richness of the acronym.
According to this method, the crucial stage of the whole Rorschach experiment lies in the Inquiry, where the expert must clarify unequivocally, answer by answer, what the subject saw: Contents and Frequencies; where he saw it: Localizations; why he saw it: Primary and Secondary Determinants; Particular Manifestations.
The acronym, which is derived from a well-conducted Inquiry, is translated into ratios and numerical indices that can be compared on a statistical basis with the average ratios and indices of the population to which the subject belongs, and on this basis it prepares known and shared formal rules that are indispensable for proper psychodiagnosis.
The Roman Rorschach School in summary considers the Test as a reliable, timely, refined and complex Personality Investigation Technique. The Rorschach test is understood as a multidimensional technique, and the study of the material provided by the subject is conducted following different methodological approaches and different theoretical models of reference that find extraordinary convergences in the Rorschach experiment.
In its interpretive approach, the method thus embraces multiple theoretical models of reference and does not consider the Rorschach instrument subjugable to a single theory.
The studies and research promoted by the Institute are oriented toward the various dimensions that make up the vast interpretive universe that invests the Rorschach itself
